Heidi Yssennagger

Heidi Yssennagger's work concentrates on challenging the artistic bodily protocols involved in the traditional, patriarchal representation, aesthetics and symbolisation of the female nude. Her work deals primarily with the taboos surrounding the unhealthy/post operative female body - which is normally hidden or seen as aesthetically offensive. Heidi introduces philosophical debates about the aesthetics and dichotomies of beauty and ugliness, and the duality between strength and vulnerability. She uses psychoanalytic reference to mental disturbances and imbalances, symbolism and metaphors as links into the notion of change, transition, decay, mortality, fantasy and sexuality. Her work is both disturbing and engaging.
